Liberia: Commerce Axe Falls On BIVAC
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has imposed a fine of US$13,275.00 on BIVAC
International for violating the Liberian Business Law.
In a communication addressed to BIVAC under the signature of Commerce Minister Cllr.
Frances Johnson Morris, quoting Article 10 of the agreement between the company and the
GOL, dated October 15th, 1997, BIVAC was exempted from taxation or liens upon earnings
and profit, but not business registration fees.
The Ministry said in a statement Monday that BIVAC has records available to its shows that
BIVAC has not register since its establishment in 1997.
The Ministry clarified that the business registration fees is not tax, but a Miscellaneous Fee
under the Revenue Code of Liberia.
Meanwhile, the Ministry is admonishing all existing business entities and those wishing to
operate business in Liberia to register so as to avoid future embarrassment, as annual
registration under the General Business Law of Liberia.
